The Hassidic Yeshiva. It was. An unsettling experience, if only because it revealed the clear gender stratification found in all orthodox religions. Similarily, I felt that Hassidim follows a very self-righteous path to enlightenment, where I personally favor universalism as the path to self-discovery. Also, one of the Israeli soldiers among our group, Haim, told me that those in the yeshiva do not pay taxes or work at all, but only study Torah all day. Interesting….

As I note in the description, this tumblr is a little bit of everything: food, music, literature, news, Tom Waits. It is a reflection of my interests. As I continue to explore this new blogging world, perhaps I’ll find an idea or theme that I can focus on specifically. Beyond anything else though, it is a method of personal reflection and healing, an introspective diary to help me clarify my thoughts on family, friends, relationships, and the world around me. As my mother has done so with her own writings, I hope this tumblr will, in my own way, help to express the me that I want to be, or believe myself to be.

To the few who I ever allow to read these posts, enjoy. May it help you to understand myself and my world, as I seek to do the same. It will be personal, honest, and above all, a mixture of seriousness and humor. For that is who I am
